TEEE successfully bid for the Itaipu project in Brazil

On May 30, 2024, in Beijing, our company participated in the open competitive procurement negotiation of the fourth batch of materials (smoothing reactor and DC field isolation switch) for the ±600 kV DC transmission project of the 2024 Itaipu Hydropower Station in Brazil, after 3 rounds of fierce bidding and finally won the bid. The purchase order for the project is expected to delivery in April 2025.

 

At present, in the field of UHV DC transmission, China has taken a leading position in the world, and has built the world's largest UHV AC-DC hybrid grid, which not only strongly promotes China's energy innovation and development, but also help to replicate the "successful model" of UHV to other countries, thus providing mature technology and successful experience for accelerating the world's energy transformation and sustainable development.

 

The Itaipu Hydropower Station is the world's second largest hydropower station in installed capacity and power generation. At present, there are 20 generating units (each unit 700,000 kilowatts) with a total installed capacity of 14 million kilowatts and an annual generating capacity of 90 billion kilowatts. The hydropower station and the transmission project have been in operation for nearly 40 years. Previously, the DC transmission project was provided by ABB and other Western companies with equipment and DC technology, and this upgrade mainly uses Chinese technology and equipment, reflecting the Brazilian National power company's high recognition of the national grid's DC power transmission technology strength. On December 21 last year, CET and Furnas of the Brazilian National Power Company signed the EPC project general contract for the ±600 kV DC transmission transformation project of Itaipu water station in Brazil. It marks a new major breakthrough in "going out" of project general contracting and China's HVDC technology and equipment strength .

 

In recent years, in response to the national power development strategy, our company has actively participated in the global transmission projects of the State Grid and developed the overseas UHV reactor market, and successfully bid for a number of power transmission and transformation projects of the State Grid at home and abroad, which ensures the company's leading position in UHV dry-type air-core reactors. The successful bidding of this project is also an important milestone for the company in expanding overseas markets, and also enhances the company's confidence in development.
